yes, this is the hawk&dove blog, but i thought i would mention that pash [me other band] is going to NJ saturday, recording at the clubhouse on sunday, and we are playing a show on monday at the lit lounge [93 2nd street, nyc] with junefool and bunstin. it all starts at 9pm and we play second. it'll be 4 or 5 bucks. if you're in the area, come on out! we'll hopefully have our soon-to-be-made demo handy and for sale for cheap [even for free maybe].

realize i've been spending hours organizing this nyc trip for pash and thus have not had the time/energy to book any hawk&dove shows. when i get back, then perhaps i'll get around to it.

Thanks to the few of you who came out for the pash show today--I think it went pretty well.

The show at the Nanci Raygun went very well. Thanks to anyone who came out for it. I thoroghly enjoyed meeting all the other bands.
Much thanks to:
Tim Kaye for being an amazing performer--both hilarious and strangely artful,
Karaoke Night for their mad crazy energy,
Races To April for one of the tightest emo sets i've ever seen,
The Residence for being -hard-core- [i wanted to start a pit, but not many people were there...],
and February's Leaving for playing pretty music.

updates:
-I'll get a few mp3's up of the new demo as soon as I'm able.
-I'm working on getting the demo out to some venues; I'll let everyone know if a show comes up.
-I cleaned up this blog a bit, so if you're old-school and wonder where some posts went, they're gone.

so I finally cut a demo. not the EP that I would really like to someday do, but I'm happy to at least have something to give people.

here are the lyrics:

TANLINE [aka fear of epidermis]

pack up your fashion, put it away
save your excuses for another day
because i've had enough

forget your apathy, i don't care for that
ditch your ego, you're better than that
because i've had enough

what are you trying to hide?

----
FINGERPRINTS [aka constance]

painted arrows rise up from the ground
painted colors of orange and brown
brown to black to dead

and a gorgeous skyline accented with clouds
forming patterns [circles in the air]

fingerprints

outside it's cold; angel wings fall to the ground
I sit alone inside under a blanket of self-deceit
by the fire of my own sin

but crushed purest snow forms footprints in the ground
making a path
leading me nowhere
but pointing heavenward

---
MEDITATION

Action has blinded me far too long
I need You

I lay down my busy hands
I need You

Be still my soul
Be still

---
SIRENUM SCOPULI

piercing notes from a crystal voice
echo inside me

offer me hope and escape
a new home

an offer too good to be true
but nothing's wrong with an offer

lingers in my head
it lasts
a gift not worth its wrapping
[not worth the price of the very container within which it rests]

hollow notes from a synthesized voice
echo in the distance

---
KNOCK KNOCK

knock knock on your door
never worked before
i guess i was scared
[i guess you were scared
please don't be scared]

sit there silently
stare at me
know all i wanted was the best

so if you want to listen to good [solo accoustic] music, check out my biggest influences:

Bob Dylan - Freewheelin'
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Songs: Ohia - Lioness EP/Ghost Tropic/Didn't It Rain
Denison Witmer - Safe Away/Philadelphia Songs
Elliot Smith - various soundtracks/Figure 8

also very influential, but not all solo:
Derek Webb/Caedmons Call - 40 Acres/Self-titled/Guild Collection
Don Chaffer/Waterdeep - Everyone's Beautiful/Sink or Swim/various bootlegs
Bill Malone/Vigilantes of Love - Summershine
Pedro the Lion - Hard to find a Friend/Winners Never Quit/Control
Damien Jurado - Rehearsals for Departure
Early Day Miners - Let Us Garlands Bring
Paul Simon - Graceland

and as much as I don't want to admit it... they certainly do affect my songwriting:
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
